I have used it for hands-on-data exercises on typology and language contact in the course Postcolonial Linguistics. The database includes structural, socio-historical, sociolinguistic, and phonological information on these languages. The web page is a great resource for teaching, as it has first hand information on a wide selection of contact languages. There are 18525 examples illustrating the features and feature values. It contains information on 76 languages and 130 structural features. The 4-volume Atlas has been published by Oxford University Press.ĪPiCS Online is a web page, which contains supporting electronic material for the published Atlas. I contributed two datasets to the publication and database, which was edited by Susanne Maria Michaelis, Philippe Maurer, Martin Haspelmath, and Magnus Huber. The making of this wonderful resource involved a consortium of over 80 researchers from around the world. ![]() Atlas of Pidgin and Creole Language Structures (APiCS) is a new large-scale database and atlas of properties of contact languages from all over the world developed at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany. ![]()
